Ghanaian man who attempts 168-hour standing marathon to break Guinness word record quits after 4 hours

A Ghanaian man, Patrick Amenuvor, has unfortunately stopped his 168-hour standing by individual marathon (Stand-a-thon) in attempt to break Guinness world record.

Patrick, who attempted to stand at a spot for 7 days, began the marathon on Sunday, January 14, and aimed to finish by 21st of the same month but had to quit after 4 hours.

The world record for longest standing was held by an Indian man, Akshinthala Seshu Babu, who stood motionless in Mahatma Gandhi’s posture with a stick for 25:01 hrs in 2001 and for 35 hours in 2002. He also made one record attempt in 2015 and it lasted for 37 hours.

However, Patrick’s management release statement, stating reasons his stand-a-thon was stopped.

According to the post, the quest was officially placed on halt due to the unforeseen electrical outrages.

The post reads, “We regret to inform you that the continuation of the Stand-A-Thon has encountered insurmountable challenges, necessitating an official halt.”

The following reasons underscore this decision: 1. Unforeseen electrical outages and technical complications disrupted the event during the specified period.”

“2. In adherence to the principles of integrity and fair play, we hereby disclose our intention to cease the OFFICIAL STAND-A-THON attempt. This decision stems from the acknowledgment of rule violations that could compromise the pursuit of breaking the record.”

“In light of these developments, a comprehensive review by management is imperative. We aim to rectify any oversights and prevent future errors that may impede subsequent attempts.”

“We extend our sincere gratitude to all who have steadfastly stood by us throughout this endeavor”.
